Will low fares encourage you to fly more?

Ryanair and Easyjet are both slashing prices to increase passengers numbers. I just don’t know what to believe as Easyjet say they need to counter factors such as higher taxes for air travel, increasing interest rates and environmental concerns, which are leading to fall in passenger numbers. This contradicts yesterdays Trip Advisor survey where 29% of Brits say they are taking more holidays than last year and last weeks reported 8.2% increase in European air passengers numbers.
Personally it’s not the price of the air fare that is the only factor to me. I can find cheap fares as I generally travel midweek off season. One of my issues is the flight arrival and departure times. I’ve been put off flying from Newcastle to Bergamo with Ryanair as the flight arrives at midnight, when there would be no service buses into the city centre and most of the car hire desks are shut. Many Ryanair flights also seem to leave early in the morning, meaning you have to be at the airport by 5am, to hang around for a couple of hours. Also car hire prices are pretty high in Italy, it was going to be around £150 to hire a supermini for one week. Then there’s parking at the airport, which can cost more than the flight. So although a £20 flight may sound alluring by the time you add on accommodation, ground transport and meal costs, it may not end up as a cheap holiday!
Are these flight price reductions tempting you?

When I lived in Holland or other places, lower fares simply meant that I flew home to the UK more regularly than usual.
My relatives own apartments in Bulgaria (shameless plug: available for rental if anyone interested?) and they only fly out when the prices are cheap enough to allow it, the times can be off-putting, but they know how to arrange transport at the other end.
I wouldn’t bother flying if my arrival at destination was at an awkward time and I don’t already know the destination area well enough to be sure of onward transport/accommodation issues.
