Holiday Autos won the best car hire website in the Travolution 2007 awards last week. Holiday Autos were praised for their “excellent use of images and icons. A clean booking process with fresh, interesting destination content as well as a innovative flight look-up system.”

I have used the Auto Europe website to book car hire and the whole process from booking to pick up and drop off has gone smoothly. Have you used Auto Europe, what was your experience?
I’ve written some tips for hiring a car in Europe.

I intended to use Europecar, but have no credit card. When I phoned the chap I spoke to was absolutley obnoxious, treated me like a second class citizen, was very aggressive, and questioned why I should think that any car hire company would let me drive away a 10K car without the security of a credit card. Needless to say I used another comany who were perfectly happy with a debit card payment and an 80E redundable deposit.
I would not ever consider using Europcar again.

No company should ever be anything but polite and helpful to a potential customer, June. I do know that many companies do require you to leave an imprint of your credit card as a guarantee but this can be explained in a non offensive way to a customer. Although I am surprised that a hire car company would only take a deposit of as little as 80 euros as security for a hire car.
