Your luggage may gain weight at Girona airport

Written by Karen Bryan

There seem to be some discrepancies when luggage is weighed at the Ryanair check in desk at Girona airport in Spain. One bag which weighed in at 14.6 kg on departure in the UK, registered 17kg on return to the UK. Other passengers reported that their cases containing the same items have also increased in weight. An investigation in under way.

I must say I do find it difficult to judge the weight of my luggage when I’m packing. I’m not sure what I can do about this short of buying industrial sized scales. Last time I returned from Bergamo with Ryanair, I had a pile of Lake Iseo information booklets in my case and I was over the weight limit but I was given the opportunity to remove items from the case and I just put the leaflets in a carrier bag which I took on as hand luggage. Have you been caught out and had to pay excess baggage fees?
