Are we or will we fly less due to environmental concerns?

According to a recent poll 29% of Brits have cut down on flying due to environmental concerns. This finding is rather at odds with British Airports Authority February passenger figures which chart an overall 0.6% increase in passenger numbers using UK airport since last February. Interestingly there is a 1.9% increase in passengers using scheduled flights to Europe but a fall of 6% in passengers using European charter flight, domestic air travel is down 3.5% but long haul travel is up 6.3%.
Perhaps the cutting back in flights will take some time to filter through to passenger figures? I have only flown once in the last 18 months and have no flights booked at present. My next holiday is in the Scottish Highlands in June. This is a great reduction for me but it has not been prompted by environmental issues. I’ve moved home twice in the last year and I have been writing guides to more UK destinations.
