The annual Ridings in Hawick, in the Scottish Borders, has been acclaimed as one of the best parties in the world in a Guide to World Parties published by Rough Guides. The Ridings follows the ancient custom of riding around the town boundaries bearing the the town flag in order to look out for dawn raids.

I think that the Scottish Borders is pretty underrated as a leisure destination. I don’t just mean for large events such as the Ridings. It is a really beautiful area to visit for a day trip or short break.
