Wonderful windows in Perthshire hotels
Written by Karen Bryan
I was in awe of the beauty of the windows in both the hotels I stayed at in Perthshire earlier this week. The Salutation Hotel in Perth has a neo classical Adam window dating from the early 1800s in the first floor dining room. I’d seen the window from the exterior many times when in Perth but this was the first time I’d been inside the hotel.

The other window is in the drawing room of the Crieff Hydro Hotel. It has hand painted illustrations of the local scenery. I contacted the hotel to ask for more information about the window and here’s what they told me, “The window was put in when the drawing room ceiling was raised around 1900. All the pictures are of local beauty spots and the one of Abercairney House is the only one remaining of the original house before it was burnt to the ground. The bottom left picture is also new and the discolouration of modern colours is obvious. This one was broken and we had it re-done by Madeleine Davenport. It was good at the time ie maybe 30 yrs ago but as I said, the colour has gone. I know where all the places are but they can be found on a large scale map anyway ”
