Cinque Terre on the up

Written by Karen Bryan

The Cinque Terre coastal region, south of Genoa, has reaped the benefits of National Park status. The region used to be one of the poorest in Italy but there is now increased tourism and organic agriculture. The area has always been well known for its wine. Much of the credit is given to the forner mayor and now head of the National Park. it is amazing how much can be achieved if one person with vision and motivation can spearhead positive changes and gain popular support.

If you would like to visit the Cinque Terre I can suggest a holiday. You could take a 7 day guided walking holiday, the best way to see the area. The walk is quite challenging due to the narrow steep paths. There are departures in April, May, June, September and October. The price is 1900 euros per person based on 2 sharing. Please complete an enquiry form to find out more.

  3. We just returned from Cinque Terre (Sept 08). We had a wonderful time. The view going up to the Cinque Terre was INCREDIBLE! It is too hard to choose “the best” area–it’s all so fabulous! The gelato was great, as well! If anyone is thinking of traveling in Italy, I would encourage you to go to the Cinque Terre. It is an especially grand honeymoon trip–very romantic!

  4. Diana, Cinque Terre is another one of these areas in Italy that I keep thinking I must visit,

  5. Karen-

Take a look at reserving for next summer/fall. If you can go about the same time of year that we did, the air rates will be lower and the weather a little cooler, but best of all you don’t battle the crowds!

We also did a good number of other areas, most notably, Rome. That was really wonderful.

You can reserve on my website as a cruise, vacation package, or even a villa rental abroad. I think that’s what we may rent a villa next as we really enjoy temporary “living” in the areas with the locals. I think you get a real feel for their culture.

  6. Diane – I generally travel off peak to avoid the heat and crowds and to get better value for money.
