According to statistics from the ONS. the number of trips abroad takem by UK residents has tripled to over 66 million since 1985. Two thirds of these trips are for leisure and just under half the holidays are package holidays. Spending on these trips abroad has increased four times, even allowing for inflation, during this period. Europe is still the most popular holiday destination accounting for 80% of trips. Spain receives the most visitors with France coming second.

I must admit I am a fan on holidays in Europe. I feel that there is so much for me still to see in Europe, that I don’t have strong desire to go further afield.
