Virtually no trains on Boxing Day

Written by Karen Bryan

I am quite dismayed at the lack of public transport on the 26 December in the UK.  Our son who is a student in Glasgow has a part time job and he is working in the evening of Boxing Day.  Therefore if we want to spend Christmas Day with him we will have to make a 200 mile return trip by car, taking around 4 hours. to get him to work on Boxing Day.

I know the argument that people need to have time off with their families during the festive season. However many shops, pubs and restuarants will be open this day so why should public transport workers be treated differently? My son only has to undertake this trip because he is going to work!

There is all this emphasis on getting people out of their cars onto public transport but often their is no alternative.

What is the provision of public transport like over the festive season where you live? How will this affect you?
