Ryanair forced to improve compensation

Ryanair are being forced to offer passengers compensation for delayted flgiht and more rights with regard to lost or damaged baggage. Easyjet say they have already complied with these changes. I have very mixed feelings about Ryanair. They have certainly greatly expanded the choice of direct flights from Scotland. It you travel midweek off peak it is possible to pay as little as £20 return including taxes. I do not expect effusive care at the airport and on the plane when I pay low prices. I think you have to be realistic and relate your expectations to what you pay. However I do expect the plane to be safe and if a flight is cancelled I think there should at least be food and soft drinks provided after around 3 hours. Also I would not expect to be left to find my own way home if my flight were cancelled. I have been lucky and almost all flights have been punctual.

What is your experience of Ryanair and other low cost airlines? Would you rather pay a low fare and forgo some protection?

I read yesterday that Ryanair were voted the least popular airline in an opinion poll. Do you have to be popular to be successful? Is good customer service an expensive unnecessary extra?
